Every sunset, Sami played his tin flute, and his flock sang along. “Baa, baa, baa!” Neat as peas in a pod. Then Ghazal opened her mouth. “Baa-aa-OO-ee!” Her baa wobbled sideways. Even Sami’s floppy hat seemed to lean.
The whole story
Every sunset, Sami played his tin flute, and his flock sang along. “Baa, baa, baa!” Neat as peas in a pod. Then Ghazal opened her mouth. “Baa-aa-OO-ee!” Her baa wobbled sideways. Even Sami’s floppy hat seemed to lean.
Ghazal tried a tiny baa. It wobbled too. “I want to sing neatly,” she whispered. She tucked herself behind a round rock, leaving one woolly ear showing. Sami lowered his flute. “Shall I sit with you?” Ghazal shuffled over to make room.
Then fog rolled over the grass like spilled milk. The sheep disappeared. So did the path. “Stay where you are!” called Sami. Soft baas floated back, all mixed together. Which way was the flock? Beside the rock, Ghazal took a big breath.
“Baa-aa-OO-ee!” Ghazal’s wobble rang through the fog. “Here!” called a sheep. “Keep singing,” said Sami. Ghazal sang. One by one, soft noses found her woolly tail. Sami found the path beneath his feet and led their little singing line toward home.
At the sheepfold, Sami counted every fluffy head. “All home!” He played a tune with a wiggly middle. “Your turn, Ghazal.” “Baa-aa-OO-ee!” The flock joined in. Nothing sounded neat. Sami’s hat slipped over one ear. This time, he let it.
