“Hello, stars!” called Click. He waved his left arm. CLATTER! It landed in his breakfast bowl. Bolt, his magnet dog, fetched it with a gentle tug. “Thank you,” said Click, adding another strip of yellow tape. “Perhaps I need a smaller hello.”
The whole story
“Hello, stars!” called Click. He waved his left arm. CLATTER! It landed in his breakfast bowl. Bolt, his magnet dog, fetched it with a gentle tug. “Thank you,” said Click, adding another strip of yellow tape. “Perhaps I need a smaller hello.”
But even tiny waves ended with a plonk. At the moon-station garden, Click tucked both hands behind his back. Visitors passed. Click studied his boots. Bolt nudged him. “I miss saying hello,” Click whispered. “But I’m tired of picking myself up.”
Then something squeaked. “Mew!” A kitten was stuck inside a narrow watering pipe. “Hello, little one!” Click waved without thinking. CLINK—his arm slipped straight down the pipe. “Oh, bolts,” he said. Deep below, five silver fingers wiggled beside a tiny pink nose.
Click couldn’t reach. Bolt couldn’t fit. But the loose arm could help. Its fingers curled into a little seat. The kitten climbed aboard. “Slowly, Bolt.” Bolt leaned his magnetic ears over the opening. Up came the arm, carrying one trembling passenger. Click caught them both.
The kitten purred against Click’s tape. “My arm makes a rather good chair,” he said. After that, Click waved proudly at everyone. Sometimes his arm stayed on. Sometimes Bolt fetched it. And sometimes a small cream kitten rode past, receiving a very grand hello.
