Something orange peeked out of the field. Something ENORMOUS. Noor brushed away a crumb of dirt. Haru brushed away another. “A carrot!” said Noor. “A whole supper!” said Haru. It lay across a little furrow, with its fat middle tucked tightly underground.
The whole story
Something orange peeked out of the field. Something ENORMOUS. Noor brushed away a crumb of dirt. Haru brushed away another. “A carrot!” said Noor. “A whole supper!” said Haru. It lay across a little furrow, with its fat middle tucked tightly underground.
Noor grabbed the leafy end. Haru grabbed the pointy end. “I’ll pull,” said Noor. “I’ll pull harder,” said Haru. They tugged in opposite directions. Their ears wobbled. Their whiskers quivered. The carrot did absolutely nothing. “Very stubborn supper,” puffed Noor.
They pulled while a beetle toddled past. They pulled while the shadows stretched. They pulled until the sun slipped down behind the fence. Noor’s paws trembled. “Ready for one more?” asked Haru. “With you,” said Noor. “One, two—TUG!”
POP! Up came the carrot. Down went the rabbits. Pluff! Pluff! Soft dirt sprinkled their tummies. A carrot leaf perched on Haru’s head. “Nice hat,” squeaked Noor. Haru giggled. Noor giggled harder. Then Haru brushed the dirt off Noor’s supper end.
Crunch went Noor. Munch went Haru. They ate from opposite ends, nibbling closer and closer. One last little bite remained. “Yours?” asked Noor. “Ours,” said Haru. Nibble, nibble—bump! Two dusty noses touched. And the field filled up with giggles again.
